PRTH; LSE: PRH), a leading developer of semiconductor intellectual
property for the mobile Internet market, today announced the opening of an
advanced R&D center in Caen, France. The center, which is due to grow
to approximately 25 RF engineers, is focused on developing highly advanced
multi-mode radio (RF) technology for next generation wireless
applications. Advanced RF technology is key to Parthus' pioneering
platform-level intellectual property strategy and allows the company to
deliver a total systems solution to its global customer base.

Parthus has developed its 'CORE' (Complementary Optimized Radio
Environment) roadmap focused specifically on multi-mode radios. The CORE
program has identified complementary radio systems that are technically
compatible and that have strong application synergy which when combined
offer enhanced flexibility with substantial cost savings. The CORE
development is part of a program to deliver low cost software based
multi-mode radios that incorporate advanced DSP and digital
The first development in this program is a combined Bluetooth/GPS Radio
on a single chip. At a recent Bluetooth SIG Local Positioning working
group meeting, hosted earlier this month by Parthus in Dublin, attendees
discussed issues related to the convergence of Bluetooth and other
applications, including GPS. Attendees at the working group included
Philips, Motorola, Qualcomm, Nokia, Denso, HP and Parthus. "The Local
Positioning Working Group had a very constructive event in Dublin" said
Mike Overy of Nokia, Chair of the Bluetooth LP-WG.
The analyst community has also endorsed the advantages of Parthus'
multi-mode radio strategy. According to Randy Giusto, vice president of
mobile and desktop research at IDC: "Next generation wireless devices will
have to receive and transmit in many wireless protocols such as Bluetooth,
GSM, GPRS, W-CDMA and GPS. Ultimately multi-mode radio technology, as
