Parthus Joins Java Community Process (JCP) Expert Group to Define Java™ API for Next Generation Mobile Internet Platforms

San Jose, California and Dublin, Ireland - February 7, 2001-
Parthus Technologies PLC (Nasdaq: PRTH, LSE: PRH), a leading developer of
semiconductor intellectual property for the mobile Internet market,
announced today that it has become a member of the Java Community
Process(sm) (JCP) program and actively participates on
the expert group for Java™ APIs for Bluetooth (JSR 82). Parthus is
working along with Ericsson, Eyeshake, IBM, Mitsubishi, Motorola, Nokia,
RIM, Sun Microsystems, Symbian and Zucotto to define a Java™ API for a
range of mobile Internet platforms to help ensure Java technology-based
devices support the latest protocols for wireless environments.

"Java technology is playing an important role in the development and
deployment of new applications for wireless devices," said George Paolini,
vice president, Technology Evangelism and Marketing, Sun Microsystems,
Inc. "Parthus Technologies, a leader in the development and deployment of
semiconductor intellectual property, is a valuable addition to the JCP and
will contribute its expertise to the effort of developing standard Java
APIs for the next generation mobile Internet platforms."

The Java API specification for Bluetooth allows Java
technology-enabled mobile devices to integrate into a Bluetooth
environment. Java technology benefits applications developers and network
operators by allowing them to write and deploy platforms that run on a
vast range of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices. Therefore a
single Bluetooth enabled application can run on a range of mobile
phones, PDAs and Bluetooth enabled PCs without any interoperability
issues.

In addition, distribution of applications and data has been a challenge
within the wired Internet where sites frequently break down due to the
high volume of users. By deploying devices that support a Bluetooth
API, network operators can distribute new applications on a peer-to-peer
networking basis across Bluetooth networks, rather than from a
central distribution point.

"Java technology is highly flexible and compact, and is designed to run
Java applications directly on micro-processors in anything from PDAs to
cell phones," said Dave Moloney, technical director of the Wireless
business unit at Parthus. "We believe the next generation mobile Internet
device will benefit greatly from the groundwork we are doing now. Our
participation in the definition APIs allows us to gain insight into the
requirements of systems, OEMs, applications developers and network
operators that we can use to drive the characteristics of our platforms
and generate unique and tailored solutions for this market."

Going forward, Parthus is planning to propose additional Java APIs for
its other technology solutions, including its InfoStream mobile computing
platform. For example, such APIs would support Smartphones with mobile
multimedia. In addition, Parthus is in the initial phase of promoting a
Java API for location-based services enabled by its NavStream Global
Positioning technology. Such an API would enable location-based, Java
technology-enabled devices, such as Smartphones to support location-based
Java technology applications as part of an extension to the existing
JavaPhone™API.

About The Java Community Process Program

Since its introduction in 1995 as the open, participative process to
develop and revise the Java technology specifications, reference
implementations, and technology compatibility kits, the Java Community
Process program has fostered the evolution of the Java platform in
cooperation with the international Java developer community. More than 80
Java technology specifications are in development in the JCP program,
which has over 300 company and individual participants. More information
on the JCP program is available at http://java.sun.com/aboutJava/communityprocess/
